Incoming NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is reported in yesterday’s Sydney Morning Herald as vowing to tackle Sydney’s housing crisis and to improve affordability of property in that city.
This places her between a rock and a very hard place indeed.
Everybody knows that the only way to achieve that stated aim is to reduce Sydney residential prices, and we all know how that achievement would be greeted by the many voters who already own Sydney property, particularly those who have borrowed heavily to purchase investment property. Many would be left owing more than they own and in serious trouble when their overdrafts are called in.
Good luck with that one, Gladys. Perhaps better tackle some of the easier ones first such as forced amalgamations of councils. You won’t get too much argument there.
