AUSTRALIA DAY 2: 27 JANUARY 2017

Enthusiastic crowd rings in Australia Day 2017 … despite the lack of a Young Citizen of the Year

It was an enthusiastic but somewhat smaller than usual crowd that attended the Australia Day presentation at the Molong Recreation Ground yesterday.

The awards were presented by newly elected State MP Phil Donato (http://molong.com.au/community/news/2017

) under the mostly watchful eye of MC Bob Sullivan.

Molong Online went along to snap some photos, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a couple of sausage sandwiches. Immediate apologies for not knowing some of the names involved, so I won’t even attempt to caption the resulting images.

I’ll just add a complaint that I’ve already made earlier today:

For Molong Online — and for quite a few others — the great shame of the day was the absence of an award for Molong Young Citizen of the Year.

We gather that this was because of a lack of any nominations rather than a decision that the town didn’t have any young worthy of such as award. Molong Online knows full well that the latter is not the case.

Perhaps it’s up to the organisers of the local Australia Day awards to look a bit harder.
