AUSTRALIA DAY: 16 JANUARY 2017

Aussie entertainment, barbecues and pool parties in Cabonne on Australia Day; program of events village-by-village

The focus will be on Aussie entertainment, barbecues and poolside fun when Australia Day activities are held throughout Cabonne Shire later this month.

A full day of celebrations is planned for Thursday 26 January 2017, starting at 8am with breakfasts at several villages and wrapping up with barbecue dinners and local entertainment by the swimming pool in the evening.

Cabonne’s Australia Day ambassador, former Paralympic cycling champion Lindy Hou OAM, will participate in ceremonies at Mullion Creek, Cargo and Canowindra where Citizens of the Year, Young Citizens of the Year and Community Groups of the Year will be announced.

Australia Day will also be celebrated at Borenore, Cudal, Cumnock, Eugowra, Manildra, Molong and Yeoval.

Despite starting to lose her sight in the mid-1980s and now being almost totally blind, Lindy Hou won gold and three other medals at the Athens Paralympics in 2004, setting a world record in the process. The following year, she set another world record and in 2006 won two gold medals at the world championships.

Lindy went on to win silver and bronze at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.

She will begin a hectic Australia Day at Mullion Creek at 8am before travelling to celebrations at Cargo at 11am, followed by a family barbecue and awards ceremony at Canowindra at 1.30pm.
