Molong Pensioners and Superannuants raise $31,000 for new aged-care units
Molong Combined Pensioners and Superannuants have praised the hard work of their members and the generosity of the Molong community after donating a further $28,000 towards new aged-care units now under construction in Molong.
Edna Brown presented a cheque to Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper on behalf of the group, bringing to $31,000 what it has raised through street stalls, raffles and other fund-raising ventures to go towards three new units being built in Edward Street.
Mrs Brown said it had been a mammoth effort by the group’s members who have donated so much of their time and efforts over a number of years.
“It also highlights the generosity of the Molong community who have given us wonderful support,” she said.
A project of the town’s Acacia Lodge Committee, the aged-care units will provide accommodation for those people with the most need and who may not be able to afford to enter traditional aged-care facilities.
Being built at a cost of $700,000, they are the result of more than three years of negotiations and planning; fund raising by the committee and pensioners and superannuants; and support from Cabonne Council.
With the fund-raising and the sale of another property Acacia Lodge owned in Molong, the committee and pensioners and superannuants put more than $300,000 into the project. This was supplemented by a $400,000 loan from Cabonne Council to make the units a reality.
Cr Gosper said the pensioners and superannuants should be extremely proud of their contribution.
“This is a perfect example of a community working hard to make something very worthwhile happen and that’s why Cabonne Council was delighted to provide a $400,000 loan to enable the aged-care units to be built,” he said.
The new units are being constructed to a high standard and will meet all the NSW Government requirements for housing for seniors and people with a disability.
Bathurst firm Hines Constructions won the public tender for the work and is ahead of the expected August completion date.
