A MOUNTAIN HARVEST: 29 MARCH 2017

Chestnuts … they’re easy picking this Saturday

If you’re travelling to or from Sydney this Saturday (1 April) there’s even more reason to take a break in the Blue Mountains — a free chestnut foraging in preparation for the autumn Leura Harvest Festival on 7 May.

Visitors can help gather the nuts from 100-year-old trees at one of the oldest farms in the Blue Mountains, at Mt Irvine. Presented by Slow Food Blue Mountains, this event sees foragers hunting, gathering, processing and cooking chestnuts. Participants can take home their own one-kilogram bags for $8.

The chestnut theme carries over to Sunday 2 April with a self-drive tour incorporating chestnut bread tastings at Conditorie Patisserie Schwarz in Wentworth Falls, chocolate chestnut cake at Josophan’s Fine Chocolates in Leura, chocolate-coated giandouja at The Blue Mountains Chocolate Company in Katoomba, plus a chestnut-themed lunch at Katoomba’s Palette Dining.
