LANGDON'S LONG LUNCH: 09 APRIL 2017

Josh and Emma present a long lunch for the ages at Molong Farm

Josh and Emma Meijer yesterday invited a large group of friends and strangers to share the produce of their farm — and, indeed, their farm itself — as part of FOOD Week.

It doesn’t matter whether you use the advertised title ‘Landgdon’s of Peabody’ or the more simple moniker of ‘Molong Farm’, this was an event for the ages, one that showed just how idyllic, sustainable and enjoyable life can be.

As the Woman with Altitude, making one of her occasional excursions from Sydney to Molong, remarked, “I’m standing in the middle of my dream.”

Washed down with plenty of good wine from Printhie, located just a few kilometres, as the crow flies, from Molong Farm, this was largely a celebration of what Josh and Emma can produce and prepare — a seven-course lunch that was scheduled to last five hours, but probably went closer to six, and essentially consisted of wandering around the farm sampling various delights before settling on hay bales in front to the homestead to listen to Neil Gill and Stu Sims produce some toe-tapping, very danceable, music.

And, of course, to taste more of Molong Farm’s delectable produce, drink more delicious glasses of Printhie, meet various dogs, pigs and cattle, perhaps play some croquet and partake in some well lubricated conversation.

It would have been easy to indulge all afternoon on the opening salvo of Emma’s scrumptious marrow-based (the vegetable variety not the bone-derived version) dip served with chunks of crusty bread from Orange’s Racine Bakery.

But we all knew that there was plenty of other food calling — a hot bisque with chunks of yabby from the nearby dam, tender Asian-style goose meat rolled in pancakes, pulled-pork roll with apple slaw and garden-grown coriander, lamb done in a Middle Eastern style, and custard-filled, strawberry topped pastry from Racine.

Wow, what a feast! Make sure you mark it down in next year’s FOOD Week calendar. And I hear that Josh and Emma are looking at the possibility of slotting something similar into their schedule for a mid-year experience. Watch this space, as they say.
