Mining Engineering … 25 scholarships worth $48,000 each
The School of Mining Engineering at the University of New South Wales Australia’s top-rated, and ranked sixth in the world will this month host free information dinners for Year 12 students, their parents or teachers where they can find out more about 25 new Scholarships worth $1.14 million being offered for study in 2017.
One of the the dinners will be held in Bathurst on Wednesday 14 December from 6.30-9pm at Bathurst Goldfields, 428 Conrod Straight, Mount Panorama.
UNSW academics, current students and industry professionals will be on hand to give prospective students an insight into a career in mining engineering. Find out about entry options, campus life, study and career options and what it’s really like to work in the mining and resources industry.
The new scholarships are a joint initiative of UNSW and the mining industry, seeking to counter a perception that there are few jobs in the sector. In fact, prices for iron ore and coal are experiencing a global rally, and soon there will be a desperate shortage of qualified mining engineers.
“The mining industry is on the upswing again which means by the time students enrolling in 2017 graduate, they’ll be in great demand,” said Paul Hagan, Head of the School of Mining Engineering.
“Within two or three years, as the boom returns, there just won’t be enough mining engineers entering the workforce to meet demand.
“This is the sixth mining cycle I’ve been through, so I’ve seen it before. Anyone enrolling in 2017 will be in top demand and probably be fought over by mining companies.”
Scholarship recipients receive assistance in securing industry training, and scholarships are open to Australian citizens or permanent residents who enrol at UNSW in 2017. Applications close on 31 January 2017. Visit https://www.unsw.edu.au.
