YOUTH OF THE MONTH: 05 MARCH 2017
Cabonne Youth of Month raised $4300 for Leukaemia Foundation
A student who raised more than $4300 for the Leukaemia Foundation has been named Cabonne Council’s Youth of the Month for March.
Cudal’s Bronte Chown undertook the outstanding fund-raising effort by participating in the World’s Greatest Shave.
Bronte received her award from Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper, who said he was present when Bronte shaved her head at a special event at Molong Central School, where she is a student.
“Bronte had the entire school community behind her, chanting her name as she had her head shaved,” Cr Gosper said.
“In addition to her fantastic fund-raising effort, she also donated her hair to Variety Australia.”
Cr Gosper said Bronte engaged the entire school community and secured the support of Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee to further raise awareness of the work of the Leukaemia Foundation.
“Bronte held a stall at the Cudal Show selling raffle tickets and second-hand items, and gave speeches to the Molong Rotary Club, Cudal-Cargo Lions Club and her school about the devastating effects of leukaemia and why she felt it was important to be involved in the World’s Greatest Shave,” the Mayor said.
Cr Gosper said Bronte was also a conscientious student and keen sportsperson.
“She makes a consistent effort in all of her school subjects and was a peer support leader at her school in 2016,” he said.
