Landcare funding announcement welcomed by Landcare’s national bodies
Landcare Australia and the National Landcare Network today welcomed the announcement of a much needed funding boost for Landcare, while expressing hope that consultation would take place regarding where the funds would be directed.
Yesterday’s agreement by the Federal Government will see an additional $100 million dollars of funding given to Landcare over four years, with details yet to be announced as to how and to whom this funding will be distributed.
Landcare Australia CEO, Tessa Jakszewicz, is pleased to see Landcare receiving additional funding.
“The scale of work involved in ensuring that our land is healthy, productive and sustainable in the face of growing challenges is immense, and a large amount of this valuable work is undertaken by the Landcare community,” she said.
“We are extremely pleased with the announcement of an additional $100 million in funding to support this work and hope that the farmers, community groups and support agencies involved in keeping Landcare active will benefit, enabling the vital work being undertaken across the country to continue.”
Jim Adams, CEO of the National Landcare Network, also welcomed the announcement.
“Any additional funding for Landcare is good news to those involved at a grass roots, state or national level, and we hope that as much as possible this funding directly supports on-ground activities led by Landcare community groups, as well as the vital support services provided by Landcare Australia and the National Landcare Network,” he said.
The Landcare movement began as a national initiative in 1989 and there are currently more than 5400 groups undertaking natural resource management projects in local communities across the country.
