RECYCLING: 18 JANUARY 2017

Illegal dumping puts Molong recycling service in jeopardy

The actions of illegal dumpers could result in the removal of a bank of recycling bins from Molong.

The 25 recycling bins located in Betts Street, Molong, are a goodwill service provided by Council for use by rural residents who do not have access to a kerbside recycling service.

The bins are for the disposal of household recyclable materials only, such as cardboard, plastics, aluminium, tin and glass. They are emptied fortnightly in line with Molong’s normal kerbside recycling collection day.

However, illegal dumping now means the service is in jeopardy.

Cabonne Council is disappointed with the abuse of the recycling point, where the inconsiderate actions of a few may eventually impact the wider community.

Council will consider closing the recycling point if people continue to dump household rubbish at the Betts Street facility, where council staff have taken away several loads of garbage in recent weeks.

Council staff will monitor the site and Molong residents are encouraged to report details of any incidents to the council. Fines of up to $250 can be issued by Council to individuals dumping rubbish at the site.

Residents are reminded that all recyclables must be placed within (not beside) the bins provided, and recyclables should not be contained within plastic bags as these are unable to be recycled.

Recyclable materials can be received at any of the shire’s six waste management facilities free of charge. Manildra and Cumnock waste disposal depots, which are closest to Molong, are open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.

Cabonne residents can also dispose of recyclables free of charge at the Ophir Road Resource Recovery Centre in Orange.

Anyone with information on illegal dumping activities should call Cabonne Council on 6392 3200.
