PRIMARY PRODUCERS: 15 FEBRUARY 2017
NSW DPI assisting farmers affected by bush fires
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) continues to work with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) in the Mid-Western, Upper Hunter and Warrumbungle local government areas.
DPI and Local Land Services veterinary officers and biosecurity staff are on the ground assisting primary producers with animal welfare-related issues.
Access to the fire grounds due to safety concerns is limiting the ability to assess the full extent of the damage.
To date approximately 300 livestock have been confirmed lost, however the number of stock losses is anticipated to grow over the coming days as landowners gain access to their properties.
Animal evacuation centres have been set up at the Merriwa and Gulgong showgrounds.
Primary producers needing assistance with emergency fodder, livestock assessment or emergency stock water should call 1800 814 647.
DPI will continue to monitor the situation, in provision of emergency support to the NSW RFS.
Based on media release issued by DPI.
