WASTE MANAGEMENT: 13 FEBRUARY 2017
New Manildra recycling centre lets residents dispose of problem wastes
Cabonne Council and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) today (Monday 13 February 2017) officially opened the new Manildra Community Recycling Centre (CRC) where householders can drop off problem wastes for free.
Cabonne Council received a $98,000 grant to establish the new centre under the NSW Government’s ‘Waste Less, Recycle More’ initiative.
EPA Manager Regional Operations South and West, Sandie Jones, said the CRC will help to keep problem wastes such as paints, oils, gas bottles and batteries out of landfill.
“The centre will complement the community’s existing recycling services, minimise waste and increase recycling,” Ms Jones said.
“We are committed to improving the collection and recycling of these problem wastes which is why the NSW Government has dedicated $127 million to establish new systems, including a community recycling centre network, under the ‘Waste Less, Recycle More’ initiative.”
Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper welcomed the establishment of the new recycling centre and said the council was very appreciative of the NSW Government’s financial support for the project.
“This is great news for the environment and for Cabonne Shire residents,” he said.
‘Waste Less, Recycle More’ is a NSW Government initiative to keep waste out of landfill, increase food and garden waste collections, boost business recycling and invest in new infrastructure.
The Manildra Community Recycling Centre is located Yellow Box Road, Manildra, and is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm.
Recyclables can also be left at the council’s other waste disposal depots at Cargo, Canowindra and Cumnock (also open on Wednesdays and Sundays) and Eugowra and Yeoval (open on Tuesdays and Saturdays). These materials will be transported to the Manildra CRC for processing.
Problem wastes accepted free at the Manildra CRC include:
Water-based and oil-based paints;
Used motor and cooking oils;
Lead-acid and hand-held batteries;
Gas cylinders and fire extinguishers;
Conventional tube and compact fluorescent lamps; and
Smoke detectors
