New water restrictions for Cumnock and Yeoval

Low flows in the Bell River and Buckinbah Creek have forced Cabonne Council to introduce water restrictions in Cumnock and raise the level of restrictions in Yeoval.

The new arrangements will come into effect on Friday 18 January, with Level 2 water restrictions in Cumnock and Level 3 restrictions in Yeoval.

Cabonne Council’s Acting General Manager, Heather Nicholls, said flows in the Bell River at Cumnock, and the Buckinbah Creek at Yeoval, had decreased substantially in recent months. The new restrictions were needed to ensure sufficient supplies are available for essential household purposes.

While the construction of a new pipeline to provide treated drinking water to both villages is almost complete and is now in the testing phase, the Council currently supplies residents with chlorinated raw water only.

Level 2 restrictions to be introduced in Cumnock include:

— Watering of gardens and lawns, including hand-held hoses, sprinklers, micro-sprays, drip systems and soaker hoses, is permitted for a maximum of two hours between 6am-9am and 6pm-9pm every second day according to an odds and evens street number system. (If a property has an even number, residents may water on even days of the calendar and odd street numbers on odd days. If a property has no street number, it is treated as an even number).

— Vehicles must be washed only on grass surfaces with a bucket and trigger hose between 9am-12 noon.

— Private swimming pools and spas can be topped up between 7am-9am and 6pm-8pm.

— Topping up or filling garden water features is permitted.

— Washing down walls and paved surfaces is not permitted.

Level 3 restrictions to be introduced at Yeoval include:

— Watering of gardens and lawns, including hand-held hoses, sprinklers, micro-sprays, drip systems and soaker hoses, is permitted for a maximum of one hour per day between 6am-9am and 6pm-9pm every second day according to the odds and evens street number system.
