Three Cabonne councillors resign

Mayor Ian Gosper said tensions and divisions caused by the now abandoned merger proposal for Cabonne Council were evident when three councillors resigned yesterday (Tuesday 28 March).

Crs Lachie MacSmith, Michael Hayes and Janelle Culverson tendered their resignations at Tuesday afternoon’s Council meeting.

“It is a sorry day for Cabonne Council,” Cr Gosper said.

“The merger proposal and the whole Fit For The Future process caused a lot of division and we can see that today.

“Democracy is an important part of Local Government and councillors have the right to their own opinions.”

Cr Gosper thanked Crs MacSmith and Culverson for their eight-and-half years of service and Cr Hayes for four-and-half years of service to the council.
