A BETTER WAY TO GO: 10 FEBRUARY 2017

Heading to Orange and beyond … avoid the Northern Distributor

Molong Online hears that Orange City Council is contemplating closing for a week the Northern Distributor Road, that disgraceful piece of work they have perpetrated on motorists trying to bypass Orange.

The idea, we gather, is to force the State Government to take over responsibility for the piece of shit they have created.

But anyway, there’s no real reason to use it unless you’re going to visit somewhere along or near it.

These days, you’re better off heading into Orange via the Amaroo Road, then turning left on to the Escort Way near Borenore.

It’s about the same distance and avoids stoppages due to work on the Guanna Hill realignment. First thing in the morning it also avoids many of the worst spots for driving into the rising sun along the Mitchell Highway.

If you’re just heading to Orange go from Duntryleague Golf Course to wherever you’re headed.

If you’re going to Bathurst or beyond, take the dogleg into Dalton Street via Burrendong Way, head along Dalton to Seymour Street (directly opposite my childhood home), turn right, then left into March Street and right into Winter Street, which becomes Lone Pine Avenue and takes you straight to Bathurst Road.

That way is shorter, quicker and smoother than the Northern Distributor Road ever will be.
