ROAD CLOSURE: 8 MARCH 2017

Drivers placing themselves in danger by ignoring road closed signs

Cabonne Council has asked police to take action after a number of drivers have ignored road-closed signs and driven into a work site.

Part of Pinnacle Road near Mount Canobolas is closed until the end of the month while the council undertakes road-widening and culvert works.

The section of the road on the Pinnacle side of Mt Canobolas Road to Walker Lane is open to local residents only during this time.

However, a number of motorists have driven around barriers to enter the work site, placing themselves, their passengers and council staff in danger.

A council spokesman said police had been informed about the situation and asked to consider making extra patrols of the area.

The spokesman said the majority of the motorists who entered the work site appeared to be backpackers.

“They may not be aware it is an offence to drive past a road closed sign, but in this case it could also be very dangerous,” he said.

The spokesman said the council had no issues with residents along the affected section of road, praising them for their cooperation and understanding.
