HUNTER CALDWELL PARK: 14 DECEMBER 2016
Molong sports complex on track for New Year completion
The first stage of Molong’s million-dollar multi-purpose sports complex is on track to be completed by the end of January.
The project at Hunter Caldwell Park will provide local sporting teams with synthetic hockey and soccer fields, as well as synthetic tennis and netball courts.
Driven by Cabonne Council and the Molong Advancement Group, the new complex will provide not only an all-weather venue, but enable local sporting clubs to host home matches on a first-class surface.
Cabonne Council allocated $700,000 to the project in its 2016-17 Budget, with the Federal Government injecting a further $225,000.
The second stage of the complex is expected to include flood lighting, while the third stage proposes the construction of a new amenities building and canteen facilities.
Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper said the provision of first-class sporting facilities was important to encourage the participation of residents, particularly children, in sport.
“Teams from Molong and the surrounding areas have been disadvantaged by not being able to play and train on a quality synthetic surface, but fortunately that is all about to change,” he said.
“The construction of this sports complex is long overdue and it is fantastic to see the first stage nearing completion.”
