The stench of poor sportsmanship hangs over Molong cricket

Molong Online notes with some dismay a reference in a recent email from Greg Pringle, the Secretary/Treasurer of Molong cricket, to player behavior.

“There have been some instances of poor sportsmanship, offensive language and alcohol consumption prior to and during some games this season,” the email says.

“Any issues relating to this should be referred to the committee for immediate action. Suspensions, deduction of points are an option for the committee should any complaints be sustained against a team/player.

“Additionally our insurance could be compromised should there be an injury or accident if a player is effected by alcohol. All team captains/reps need to be vigilant in this area.”

Fortunately or unfortunately, the call is quite right. Sadly or otherwise in a PC era, the days of players having a few beers before or during a match are well and truly behind us.

And so, too, reckons Molong Online, is the day when players can be choosey about which teams they play against. Is there a genuine complaint about the social behavior of another team’s players or is it more of a case of not wanting to be beaten?
