Cabonne Council to replace sports field goal posts

Cabonne Council will replace goal posts at six of its sporting fields following a structural assessment at grounds throughout the shire.

The council will spend $29,000 replacing the goal posts at the Molong Recreation Ground, Canowindra North West oval near Tilga Street and sporting fields at Yeoval, Cumnock, Manildra and Cargo.

Goal posts at seven other grounds were found to be safe, but four sets at Hunter Caldwell Oval at Molong, Eugowra and both the rugby and soccer posts at Cudal have been identified for replacement in the medium term.

Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper said the work is being undertaken to try to ensure the safety of all sporting participants, particularly children.

“Obviously we want to do everything we can to avoid anyone being injured or killed by an accident involving goal posts,” Cr Gosper said.

A number of people in Australia, mostly children, have been killed by falling or unstable goal posts in the past 30 years.
