Interesting days as competition arrives at season's pointy end

The Oilsplus Molong Saturday-afternoon cricket competition has entered its long festive-season break in a very interesting position.

There seems to be daylight between Country and the rest, but otherwise any outcome seems possible with only the top three sides progressing to the finals stage.

The competiton now table stands at Country 59, Cudal 43, Bowlers 43, Millthorpe 39, Magpies 32.

The next Oilsplus round, on February 02, comprises Country v Cudal at the Molong Rec; Millthorpe v Magpies at Millthorpe; Bowlers have the bye.

There are four possible scenarios after completion of that 02 February round:

Scenario 1 — Country d Cudal; and Magpies d Millthorpe. In that case the table would read: Country 66, Cudal 46, Bowlers 43, Millthorpe 42, Magpies 39.

Scenario 2 — Country d Cudal; and Millthorpe d Magpies. In that case the table would read: Country 66, Cudal 46, Millthorpe 46, Bowlers 43, Magpies 35.

Scenario 3 — Cudal d Country; and Magpies d Millthorpe. In that case the table would read: Country 62, Cudal 50, Bowlers 43, Millthorpe 42, Magpies 39.

Scenario 4 — Cudal d Country; and Millthorpe d Magpies. In that case the table would read: Country 62, Cudal 50, Millthorpe 46, Bowlers 43, Magpies 35.

On form, Molong Online reckons that Scenario 2 is the most likely and that Millthorpe would move into the competition’s top three.

But it would only be a temporary move, because the following week (09 February), Millthorpe have the bye and can’t score any competition points.
